Current meals produced: 20,000
Pounds of groceries distributed: 25,000

Double Trellis Food Initiative provides prepared meals and grocery distribution for marginalized and housing insecure communities in Philadelphia.
PROBLEM
According to Feeding America, 17% – or almost 270,000 – Philadelphians experience food insecurity daily.
SOLUTION
Our efforts sustainably address food insecurity with intersectional programs beyond the stopgap.
IMPACT
Since June 2020 we’ve produced over 14,000 meals, opened a community fridge, and distributed over 2,500 lbs of food.
WHAT WE DO

MEALS PROGRAM
Our meals program is designed as an immediate stopgap for the most food insecure individuals. Focusing on familiar and culturally appropriate cuisine, we utilize chef-driven ingredients to create large-portioned, nutritious meals to support at the foundational level. Since June 2020, we have worked with longstanding organizations in Philadelphia to provide over 17,000 meals at an operational cost of $0.91/meal.

CORAL ST FRIDGE
Double Trellis helped install a 24-hour accessible, free community fridge with local community members, Kaelee Dooley and Anthony Perez. Its location outside the Kensington Community Food Co-Op serves largely unhoused and food insecure populations, and allows community members to support local businesses while providing food security for the immediate neighborhood.

FOOD DISTRIBUTION
Our food distribution program provides various groceries to households, unhoused individuals, and community fridges across Philadelphia neighborhoods. Since July 2020, we have distributed over 18,500lbs of food; a majority of it was “rescued” from stores that would otherwise waste it.

COMMUNITY KITCHEN
Double Trellis is working to develop a community kitchen that will advance our larger vision and realize intersectional programming beyond the stopgap with a focus on employment opportunities and vocational development.
